Digital technology has made true recovery and revitalization of old recordings a reality, without a sacrifice of nostalgic quality. Just as old photographs can be restored and transferred to CD-ROM, sound recordings may also be transferred from their original formats (reel-to-reel, cassette, vinyl record) to the safer and more robust formats like compact disc and digital versatile disc.

In most cases, digital signal processing enables us to make improve recordings through removal of tape hiss and electric hum. Through careful equalization, vocal lines are made more prominent with minimum interference to accompanying background elements (musical accompaniment, etc.).

While Soundcone has done plenty of transfers for commercial clients, many projects involve individuals who want to protect vintage home recordings from being ravaged by the elements of time, temperature and humidity.

I gave my grandparents a copy of the anniversary tape and my grandma loved it. We played the CD over at my aunt's house the other night. It certainly was enjoyable to listen to it. My mom was tickled to death with the way the CD came out. Thank you for doing such a great job! Let's keep in touch.

.....................................
A few years ago, I took on the project of taking 40 years of music by Peter Stanley and turning it into an eight-volume collection of his music. Almost none of the music was recorded in a studio, so we had tons of tapes made in living rooms and the occasional coffee house. In short, it really needed a lot of help to make it sound good, and a friend introduced me to Matt, who took on the project with a level of skill that is just a wee bit awe-inspiring… from the sometimes-scratchy tapes, we turned out one heck of a music collection. You can see and hear the results at our www.Talkeetna.com website.
