Sin City Revival
"self-titled" 2005
.............................................
Sin City Revival is Richmond 's new seven-piece southern rock tour-de-force, hovering somewhere between Velvet Revolver and the Black Crowes. The Richmond Music Journal found SCR early on as an undiscovered jewel, labeling them as “the best band you'll never hear” on commercial radio. That seems to suit SCR just fine, particularly since within their first year, they had already gained a massive, grass roots following from playing outdoor events ranging from opening spots with Molly Hatchet to Harley Davidson Rallies in North Carolina .
Of the record, Roberts said, “I think we were all rather kind of burnt on the state of commercial music – everything's so prefab with pitch correction, sample-dropping and tempo quantization – there's virtually no heart and soul left in music today. We wanted to produce something that would sound current but would at the same time contain performances that would make Tom Dowd happy. We used no click tracks and the guys all insisted on doing their solos in single takes to keep the live feel. If you're bothered by a subtle shift in tempo or errant missed note, you've kind of missed the point with this record. This isn't Maroon 5 or John Maher, this is Sin City baby!”
