Started in 2000, the Soundcone methodology is one of integration – use both analog and digital technology to their strengths. Our Mac is fed by tube condenser microphones and pre-amps; 32-bit floating-point digital recordings are mixed to 1/2" and 1/4" analog reel-to-reel, with the option of mastering to either format. Whatever it takes to draw the best waveform, we'll do. We get involved with every part of the listening experience for our clients, right down to designing and building our own acoustic wall treatments (we're even fixing to patent our designs).
Soundcone founder Matthew Roberts has created music for corporate giants such as Iomega, Semi-Tool Conductors, Metropolitan Mortgage , and Louisiana-Pacific . As a recording engineer and sound-designer, he has worked on a number of film projects, including motion pictures directed by Joey Travolta, Tim Reid at New Millennium Studios in Petersburg, Va., and a cable series (Showtime's Linc's ). He cut his teeth assisting in some of the world's most renowned recording studios, including (the former) Criteria Studios in Miami , Florida and The Hit Factory in New York . He was an engineer at Richmond 's In Your Ear Recording Studios, working on records for a number of artists, including the House of Freaks (Giant, Rhino) and the Pat McGee Band (Giant/Warner Bros.).
Mr. Roberts received his bachelor's degree in music industry from James Madison University in 1994, master's degree in media writing and production from the University of Miami in 1997, and law degree from the University of Richmond in 2004. His academic career includes extensive course-work in acoustics and digital coding with Ken Pohlmann, author of The Principles of Digital Audio . He has served as adjunct-faculty at J. Sargent Reynolds Community College, teaching in the associate's degree program of music recording, and has developed and taught his own proprietary class in digital audio for musicians. |
